9:00am - 11:00am: "Prescribing Controlled Substances" (2 hours)
Legislation now requires that all dentists take the two-hour Opioid Prescribing course every license renewal.
The course will review:
• The current standards for prescribing controlled substances 
• New Florida laws and rules related to the prescribing of controlled substances. 
• Attendees will be able to define acute and chronic pain and opioid addiction
• Attendees will know when to consider non-opioid and non-pharmacological alternatives for pain management.

11:30am - 1:30pm: Medical Errors (2 hours)
This course is designed to inform and educate dentists about risk management and the prevention of medical errors in clinical practice. 

2:30pm - 4:30pm: Domestic Violence (2hours)
This course will help dentists in early identification of domestic violence victims and their abusers, and to offer education, counseling, and referral information when needed.

Speaker: Richard Mufson, D.D.S.
Dr. Mufson received a B.S. in 1975 from the University of Florida, followed by his D.D.S. from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1983. He then completed his post-graduate education in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1986 at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He served as President of the North Dade Dental Society in 1994, a member of the SFDDA Executive Council from 1998 to the present, and is a past President of the SFDDA. Dr. Mufson is also Past President of the Miami Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is past President of the Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. In addition to lecturing on Medical Errors, Dr. Mufson has also lectured on other topics, including HIV/AIDS and substance abuse.
