Speaker: Justin Jacobs, Financial Advisor - Morgan Stanley

Topic: 10 Common Errors People Make Investing (and how to avoid them)

Description:

A fun, short and to the point presentation on common mistakes people make investing.

Biography:

Justin qualified as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa. He worked for Deloitte in both South Africa and New York specializing in auditing Financial Institutions. At Deloitte, his main clients were banks, insurance companies and the diamond mines – De Beers.

After spending some time in New York, Justin left New York and moved to London. Upon moving to London, he decided to leave Deloitte and use his vast experience gained in auditing Financial Institutions to work in the Investment Banks. He worked for 2 investment banks

during his 12 years in London. Justin first worked for BNP Paribas specializing in the credit derivatives markets and following the 2008 market crash and having seen firsthand what the credit markets did to the market, he moved to Barclays where he worked within Counterparty Risk Trading. Within those 2 positions in investment banking, he had up to 15 people reporting into him, at any one time.

Whilst investment banking was lucrative, Justin felt there was something missing – personal interaction as he usually spent his days behind 6 computer screens.

After 12 years, together with his family, Justin decided to leave London and moved to South Florida to be closer to his wife’s family. When he moved, he decided to move out

of investment banking and into financial advising. Justin did this so that he could still be involved with investing, but now have the personal client interaction that he felt he was missing.

Now, Justin helps formulate strategies that build and protect the wealth of many different types of people and organizations across the spectrum; from affluent families looking to expand their portfolios to small business owners, retirees and professionals.
